Questions about the drill
What is a handbook navigation drill?
Each prompt names a topic in plain words and you name the section of the NCEES FE Reference Handbook that holds it. The exam gives you the handbook, so the skill worth drilling is not recall of the formula but knowing where it lives and what to search for.
How long is a round?
A standard round is 12 items with 30 seconds an item on the clock. The exam simulation is 40 items on a 20-minute clock. The clock keeps running if you switch tabs, and a round that runs out is graded on what you answered.
How many rounds are free?
One timed round a day, plus the starter pool, which is untimed and replayable as often as you like. Every handbook section page is free to read with no limit.
Do I need the handbook open?
Yes, and that is the point. Open your own copy of the NCEES FE Reference Handbook beside the drill so that every answer is practice at finding the page, not at remembering this site.
Page numbers here are read from handbook version 10.5 (seventh printing, April 2025), which runs to 502 pages. NCEES revises the handbook and page numbers move with it, which is why the drill asks which section a topic lives in rather than which page. Check the version of your own copy, downloaded free from NCEES.
